Teaching the Spirit of Giving: Our Children at Give Back School

At our Give Back School in Rio de Janeiro, our education is a fundamental pillar of our mission, but it goes beyond just English, Math or Religious teachings. At Give Back School, we wholeheartedly believe in instilling the values of service, compassion, and Generosity in our young learners.

For this reason, twice a month, our little champions embark on a journey that transcends their textbooks and classrooms. They join our Homeless Outreach Team and venture out to serve our homeless friends on the streets of Rio, spreading warmth, food, and kindness.

The impact of this experience cannot be understated. For many of these children, stepping out of their favela community and exploring other parts of Rio is a rarity. It’s a chance for them to see a different side of life, to broaden their horizons, and to develop empathy for those less fortunate. The journey is an invaluable lesson that reminds them of the vast world that exists beyond their own neighborhood.

However, what makes these excursions truly significant is the profound understanding they offer. These children are not just handing out meals; they’re learning about the essence of Giving Back.
They are discovering, at a tender age, what it means to be Generous, to be useful to others, and to make a difference in someone’s life. These experiences plant the seeds of empathy and compassion, nurturing them as they grow.

At the Give Back School, we firmly believe that teaching children to Give Back is not a mere virtue; it’s a fundamental life skill. The earlier our kids learn the importance of living a Generous life, the more likely they are to become compassionate, responsible, and community-oriented adults.
This early exposure to philanthropy helps them develop a sense of gratitude for the opportunities they have, making them more inclined to share their blessings with others.

The spirit of giving and the act of being of service to those in need are lessons that extend beyond the classroom. We aim to empower our students to be the change-makers of tomorrow, to grow into individuals who view their own success as intertwined with the well-being of their community.
These excursions to help the homeless in Rio de Janeiro are just one way we are fostering this spirit of giving, but they serve as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of empathy and kindness.

In a world that often emphasizes individual achievement and competition, the Give Back School stands as a testament to the enduring value of selflessness. By teaching our children the importance of giving back, we hope to leave an indelible mark on their hearts and minds, creating a generation of compassionate individuals who understand that true success lies in making the world a better place for everyone.
